The Power of Accepted Student Revisit Days

Revisiting school campuses might not be top of their mind. Yet, in order for your student to make the best decision, it’s important that they can picture themselves at a school and feel confident in their decision. One of the best ways to do that is to attend the accepted student revisit days.

Show Up!

Even if your student thinks they’ve made up their mind about which school is at the top of their list, attending a revisit day is a great way to allow them to make sure their choice is right and even allow them to learn something new about the school. Every year we have client families who want to cancel their second or third revisit days because the first school they revisited felt so right! Our best piece of advice is to attend all of the revisit days you signed up for. Create a level playing field and give each school a chance to see if your student can envision themselves at their top two to three schools! The more insights you have as you approach April 10th, the more confident your student will be that they’ve made the right decision.

Revisit days are intended to answer your questions, help students build connections with future classmates, and show them even more about what living and learning at each school will be like! Here are some questions your student should consider or even ask during their revisit to help them when it comes time to make their decision.

Gain Perspective on the School

Gathering additional information on the school can help them learn as much as they can about the school and from other schools your student has been accepted to. Think through the following questions:

  • What makes this school stand out over the other private schools?

  • What does this school offer students that other schools don’t?

  • What is day-to-day life like at this school?

  • What are students here passionate about?

  • What can I get out of this school that I can’t at the other schools?

Check-in With Your Student

After the revisit day, it’s important to check-in with your child to ask them about their renewed perspective after seeing the school's campus again. You can ask them:

  • Did you feel happy on this campus?

  • What makes you most excited about this school?

  • What would you change about this school if you could?

  • Did you feel like you could be yourself at this school?

  • If attending this school wasn’t an option, what would you miss about it?

Checking in with your student after a revisit day is a great time to ask if they have any reservations or which schools they are most excited about. If they still aren’t sure, don’t panic! Reviewing school details and reaching out to the schools with additional questions after the revisit day is a-okay!

Reach out and Ask!

If you or your student have any remaining questions, ask away! Reach out to your admissions counselor to ask your questions and learn more about the academic programs, extracurricular activities, and student support services offered by the school that you’re curious about. This additional information can help you or your student make a more informed decision about attending the school.

Beyond gaining additional insights, ensuring your questions are answered provides reassurance apart from the campus revisit. Yes, reassurance that the school is the right choice for your student but also reassurance for you as a parent that your child is confident in their decision to attend the school.

Even if your student feels confident in their school choice, confirming their decision, and yours as parents, is absolutely important. Attending a revisit day can help students confirm their decision to attend the school. By seeing the school again, meeting with faculty, coaches and staff, and interacting with other students, your student will feel more confident that the school is indeed the right fit for them!
